Only Listen

I read Revelation 1:17 this morning and it reminded me of a dream I had in 1991. Here it is in an excerpt from my book, My Precious Life.

The next time God spoke to me in a dream was 1991. I dreamed my family was gathered in an old farm house which had seen better days. As we exited the house, the overhang of the verandah collapsed, knocking all of us to the floor. I stood up and watched as everyone got to their feet except my eldest daughter and youngest son. As I gazed down at them lying there, still as statues, the thought came to me: My first and my last…why my first and my last? Once again I woke up with a tingly feeling, with the words, first and last, repeating in my mind. I felt no fear or foreboding, but that dream stayed with me for weeks until I came across Revelation 1:17 where Jesus says, “Do not be afraid, I am the first and the last”, confirming that he is truly in my life, and is always by my side, waking or sleeping. To this day though, Debbie and Kelly, my eldest daughter and youngest son, refuse to be on any covered verandah together.

I might add here that in verse 19, Jesus goes on to say, “Write, therefore, what you have seen…” which was one of the scriptures that prompted me to write the book.

I’m not sure why Revelation 1:17 came to me this morning, but I always love to be reminded of the many ways God speaks to us if we only listen.

It’s Finally Spring

I’m borrowing my Facebook post from yesterday to serve as today’s blog. It’s a little poem to celebrate the birth of another Spring.

Spring has sprung, winter has fled,

Let the flowers bloom, put away the sled!

Let the air smell sweet, let the trees get dressed,

Let the grass turn green and the birds build nests.

Let the days grow long, let the robins sing,

Let us all be glad that it’s finally Spring!

Inner Knowing

Here is a something I noted in 2009 written by Constance Kellough, author, and president of Namaste Publishing.

“A felt perception enables us to just know the truth of something as well as to know what we need to do. As such, this faculty of inner knowing is our life’s guide, the source of our wisdom, if we choose to use it. It’s where we are connected to the infinite divine consciousness that originated and sustains the universe.”

I like to think of the infinite divine consciousness as the Holy Spirit, who as part of God who lives in us, also lives in us.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.”

The reason for this post is that I myself have experienced this inner knowing on occasion and believe we all do at some point in our lives. It’s like everything else in life, awareness is key.

Seeing God in Each Other

It is a well known fact that no one has ever seen God…or is it? Sometimes I get caught up in the whys and hows of the Bible and have always been intrigued by Genesis 1:27 about God making man in His image. 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The Bible then goes on to describe how God is in us. The following scriptures taken from the NIV (New International Version) attest to just that:

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:12

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 1 John 4:15

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Corinthians 3:16

Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you...2 Corinthians 13:5

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? 1 Corinthians 6:19

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. (Jesus) John 14:20

No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 1 John 3:9

And finally:

New Living Translation
But Jacob insisted, “No, if I have found favor with you, please accept this gift from me. And what a relief to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the face of God! Genesis 33:10 (Jacob speaking to his brother, Esau)

Here’s looking at you, God!

Living With a Capital “L”

Here is what I learned from Dr. Charles Stanley, In Touch Ministries, on February 19th. He said, “You’re young and useful at any age if you’re still planning for tomorrow.”

Some of the ways to plan for tomorrow begin with a capital L.

Learning…learn something new every day; I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; Psalm 32:8

Loving…love is the best feeling in the world; 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 says it all.

Laughing…laughter is having an internal massage; A cheerful heart is good medicine…Proverbs 17:22

Leaving…your past behind. Don’t live with your junk. (Dr. Stanley)

Longing…long to know your purpose in life and then fulfill it. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28)

Looking…your best. You feel your best and do your best when you look your best. (Dr. Stanley)

Labouring…working…You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Psalm 128:2 NIV

Leaning…on the Lord…Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5

Listening…to God…Whoever has ears, let them hear. Matthew 11:15 (NIV)

These are just a few of the ways we can live with a capital L. It’s what I learned on February 19th.

Creating Memories – Part Two

Yesterday I re-blogged a post, “Creating Memories” by Butch Dean. Today I want to re-emphasize some of the points Butch made because they are really memorable.

“Death has taken someone from our lives. The memories are as good as they’re going to get and there will be no more.”Read that last sentence again: “The memories are as good as they’re going to get and there will be no more.” How profound!

Butch also wrote, “We live with what we created…..we regret the rest of our life, a memory we could have changed, but didn’t.” I find this very insightful and worth thinking about, but more so, putting into practice.

“Focus on creating good memories…” Well, we don’t always do that, and why should we? The answer is in the first paragraph of Butch’s blog. “More often than not, we don’t see it until it’s too late; a memory that you’d just as soon forget has been made.”

Today’s post is perpetuated for a purpose and that is to be more aware of how we are living our lives. Are we making memories that will be a blessing to ourselves and others or are we making memories we would just as soon forget?

Creating Memories

Re-blogged from Wordsmith’s Desk

Butch Dean's avatarWordsmith's Desk

Each day of our lives, we are creating memories for tomorrow. In the daily routine, we don’t often look at it this way. More times than not, we don’t see it until it’s too late; a memory that you’d just as soon forget has been made.

We live our lives together each day, acting and interacting in each other’s lives. Then comes a day when one or the other is no longer here. Death has taken someone from our lives. The memories are as good as their going to get and there will be no more.

Maybe a bad memory was made, but now it’s too late to erase it with apologies and amends. Death has sealed forever a lifetime of memories. We live with what we created…we reap what we sow…we regret the rest of our life, a memory we could have changed, but didn’t.

Memories are all that…

Easy Living

Do Not Worry – Matthew 6:25-27 NIV

25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Reading the above scripture led me to repost the following formula for easy living. Happy Sunday.

Drink the living water – (John 4:10)

Eat the bread of life – (John 6:35)

Wear the full armor of God – (Ephesians 6:11)

Rest in Jesus – (Matthew 11:28)

Breathe in the Holy Spirit – (John 20:22)

Give up the worry habit – (Matthew 6:25) (This one really taught me a lot!)

Laugh often – (Proverbs 17:22)

What’s in a Do?

If you don’t have plans for the weekend, perhaps you could spend time pondering where you have seen a hairdo like this before. This is an Araripe Manakin, and is considered one of the rarest birds in Brazil and the world. Enjoy your weekend and let me know if he reminds you of anyone.

The Araripe Manakin (Antilophia bokermanni) is a critically endangered bird from…:
