Almost a year ago I posted, “Only One God . Period”. I still believe that. However, this morning I came across the following in my daily devotions. “Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord;…” See that? “Among the gods…” So, perhaps it is not good to be so adamant about one’s beliefs, but, at least now I can see the other side of the argument…”there is more than one god.”
For me, though, there is only One God among the gods. Period.
Sometimes a chuckle will come out of nowhere just when you need one. I love to laugh but don’t always find something to laugh about. I found the following on an advertisement in my mailbox yesterday.
THE SILENT TREATMENT
A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5 a.m. for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, “Please wake me a 5 a.m.”. He left if where he knew she would find it. The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9 a.m. And he missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn’t wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, “It is 5 a.m. Wake up.”
How many wives are having a little “tee hee”? How many husbands are groaning?
…do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. Ephesians 4:26
C S Lewis (1898-1963) was a brilliant author and atheist cum Christian whose quotes are quite often thought provokers like this one.
Most people who know me know how much I love my Bible. Some even wonder why. Well, I’m here to try to answer that question.
I have found such good advice and lessons for living in the Bible that it would be difficult for me to put it aside. And here’s an example:
In the New Testament we find Paul in his second letter to Timothy giving this advice…
Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels…instead be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 2 Timothy 2:23,24
Does that not sound like a lesson in living?
Here is an acronym for the Bible…
Makes good sense to me.
