Uplifting

Each day there are special things to look forward to and up to. Today I will lift up my eyes unto the hills. (Psalm 121) Someone is looking forward to a special birthday today and I truly hope her 80th birthday will be extremely uplifting. Happy Sunday.

Just For Now

One hour after her eightieth birthday, Barbara was blowing out candles in heaven. It was one birthday her husband and daughters could not attend physically, but be sure they were wishing her well in the midst of their own grief.

Two months after his one-hundredth birthday, Bob traded in his wheelchair on earth for a chariot in heaven. Bob’s birthday party was well attended and a resounding rendition of “Happy Birthday to You” filled the auditorium of St. Andrew’s Scarborough where both Bob and Barbara had attended for many, many years.

Yes, in January we at St. Andrew’s bade farewell to two more of our dearly loved members; people who not only attended the church but attended to the church in so many ways over the years.

We were one month into the new year when Barbara and Bob climbed that stairway to heaven, following in the footsteps of the many who had gone before them. We at St. Andrew’s who love our people deeply, also grieve deeply when they answer that final call to “Come Home.”

Although they leave behind two separate families who miss them, they also leave behind one church family who misses them also.

And so we say not “Good-bye” to Barbara and Bob, but “Just for now.”

A Happy Heart

I am definitely going to the house of the Lord with a happy heart today…not only a happy heart but a thankful heart; thankful for all my many blessings and especially for the eighty-one years (yesterday) God has given me to be thankful for. If today is your birthday, enjoy! Happy Sunday.

Birthday Blessings

One year ago today, God sent another little person into my life. Her name is Ellie, and she is my eighth great-grandchild. Although miles have kept us apart, I know this child deep in my heart. I know that from the tips of her tiny toes to the fine hairs on her pretty head that she is a little miracle. I know that she is a part of God’s plan in this world.

All life is a miracle. When God first said, “Let there be…” the universe in all its splendor was created…and the rest is history.

“For I know the plans I have for you…” (Jeremiah 29:11) We are all a part of that plan whether we are one year old or eighty.

And so today, I thank God for Ellie and wish her a birthday full of blessings and a life full of love.

Someone’s Special Birthday

Someone, somewhere, is turning eighty today. This post is to celebrate you…or someone you know!

TODAY I AM 80

Today, dear Lord, I’m 80 and there’s so much I haven’t done, I hope and pray you’ll let me live until I’m 81.

But then, if I haven’t finished all that I want to do, would you let me stay a little while, until I’m 82?

So many places I want to go, so very much to see; do you think you could manage to let me make 83?

The world is changing very fast, there is so much in store, I’d like it very much if I could live to 84.

And if by then it happens that I am still alive, I’d really like to stay around until I’m 85.

There’ll be more planes up in the air, and more problems to be fixed, so I’d like to be around to see it all when I am 86.

I know, dear Lord, it’s much to ask (for it must be nice in heaven), but I’d really like to stay right here until I’m 87.

I know by then I won’t be fast, and sometimes I’ll be late, but it would be so pleasant to be around at 88.

I will have seen so many things and had a wonderful time, so, I’m willing to wait to leave this world at the age of 89. (maybe).

Just one more thing I’d like to say; dear Lord, I thank you kindly, but if it’s okay with you, I’d love to live past 90.

Busy Weekend?

Two birthday parties beckon me this weekend…one for an eight-year-old great-granddaughter, and the other for a one-year-old great-grandson. Whatever you are up to, I hope it’s just busy enough to keep you happy and relaxing enough to give you rest. Happy

Oh Happy Day!

There are people who despair when their birthday rolls around each year. They don’t want to be 40 or 50 or 65, whichever one of the “big” birthdays happens to be theirs in any given year.

Me? I L O V E my birthday every single year. January 6 is my favorite day on the calendar. Why? I always say, “This is the day the Lord has made (for me, I will) rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) And I always do. Why would I not? Each year, if not each day, is a bonus when we consider the alternative.

On Sunday some of my family came to help me celebrate a couple of days early. It was a wonderful day with lots of food, hugs, well wishes, love and laughter.

Today I look forward to lunch with some friends, and another visit with one of my daughters.

More companionship, more food, and more hugs.

Oh happy day! TYG!
