Something About Brain Cells

Charles L. Allen wrote the following in his book, “All Things Are Possible Through Prayer”:

“We use different parts of the brain for different purposes. We use the upper brain cells when we worry and brood and feel fear. The lower brain cells control the muscular activities of the body so that when we engage in physical activity, it relieves the upper brain cells and allows them to function normally.”

The next time you are in the clutches of worry, fear, or anxiety try jogging on the spot, scrubbing a floor, or dancing a jig and notice how those nagging emotions give way to the new activity.

It works for me.

Learn from the Best

This quote by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe was in part responsible for me writing my book, My Precious Life. Procrastination had prolonged my beginning it until I read this quote for the umpteenth time, and along with the encouragement from my family, finally sat down and seized the very minute on December 26, 2012.

Here then is Goethe’s famous quote:

Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute.

What you can do, or dream you can, begin it.

Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.

Only engage and then the mind grows heated;

Begin and then the work will be completed.

I am pleased to say the work has been completed and My Precious Life is the result of finally seizing the minute.

I love learning from the best.

Soul vs Ego – Round Two

I’m not sure of the winner of this round as both soul and ego had a hand in this post.

Here is a snippet from an email I received yesterday from a good friend. The message touched my soul, but because it pertains to my book, MY PRECIOUS LIFE, it also touches my ego.

….I just finished your fabulous book. I should have been getting ready to go out but couldn’t put the book down. I won’t get into how much it touched my life but it made me laugh and cry and truly closer to God. I love you for your courage to write and share it with all of us and am blessed to have you for my friend….

See my dilemma? Soul? Ego? You be the referee. I’m down for the count!

Perseverence with a Capital P

This post is for those who have not already read My Precious Life. It is Chapter Twenty-Nine, The Way I See It, in its entirety. It is about laying down our lives for our friends.

I need to persevere in promoting my book if it is to become a best seller some day. So here is Chapter Twenty-Nine

The Way I See It

A Lesson in Laying Down Your Life

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

The way I see it, this doesn’t mean that you trade places with the guy tied to a railway track with an oncoming locomotive barreling down on him, or with Jesus on the cross.

In 2004, I worked three days a week at the Canadian Bible Society book store. It was a part-time job that I loved, and had done for close to five years after my forced retirement from the Mustard Seed Gift Shop. It was a perfect match for my spiritual beliefs, retail background, and love of books.

Volunteering at Providence Health Care Centre every Tuesday morning was another activity I loved. A dedicated man and wife team conducted a hymn sing for the residents of the long-term care facility there. My responsibility was to help bring the people to the hymn sing, turn pages for them if they were unable, and just generally encourage them to sing along. Again, it fitted perfectly with my love of music, and a closeness I felt with the older generation, (of which I am one).

Lunch or coffee with friends or family was also a weekly occurrence. At church, I was a member of the Worship Committee, and sang in the choir.

That life gradually changed when Jerry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2000. It wasn’t debilitating until symptoms of dementia became noticeable in 2002. A once strong and active man became a victim of the dreaded disease known as Alzheimer’s.

In January, 2004, it was obvious that he could never be left alone again, and my life took on a whole new dimension. God had given me an awesome responsibility as Jerry’s full-time caregiver, and in order to carry it out, I was forced to give up my part-time job and the volunteer work I loved so much. Church, choir, and committees were put on a back burner until only God knew when. Likewise, all social activities became painfully few and far between as the task at hand took its toll on the life I once knew.

I had, in fact, laid down my life for my friend. That’s the way I see it.

“….whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)

My Precious Life is available in E-book, soft cover, hard cover, and can be purchased online at Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Amazon.uk, Barnes and Noble, Westbow Press, and numerous online book stores as well as your local book stores.

Thank you for persevering with my perseverence!

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I am Patricia Ann Boyes and have just become a first time published author at the age of seventy-seven. I am so excited! The title of my book is My Precious Life, and is now available for sale in Hardcover, Paperback, Kobo, Kindle and various e-books. The book is available on many online book stores such as Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.uk, Westbow Press, to name a few.

In April of this year I posted an excerpt from each of the forty chapters, and they can still be read by scrolling down to the beginning of this blog. “My Precious Life” is meant to be an inspiration to those who are struggling with life’s lessons, and wondering what they are all about. The feedback the book is receiving is touching on just that. “Wonderful…I couldn’t put it down…inspiring…” These are some of the comments coming back to me, and I’m so thankful for the interest it is generating.

After I posted the first forty excerpts, I continued to blog a post a day, and am still blogging! I love it, and have met some wonderful people in the blogging community. Here again, comments are positive and uplifting.

Here is a link to my church web site. My church is a focal point in my life and is featured in my book which is why I’m including its link.

Thank you for visiting “My Precious Life”. I look forward to hearing your comments on “My Precious Life” the Blog and the Book:
