Imperfect People

God didn’t pick perfect people to make himself known.

Moses was a murderer. (Exodus 2:12)

David was an adulterer and accomplice to murder. (Samuel 2:11)

Saul (Paul) hated Christians and terrorized them. (Acts 8:3)

Jacob was a deceiver. (Genesis 27)

And yet, these people had a starring role in God’s purpose for his people.

What is his purpose for us?

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (The words of Jesus in Mathew 5:48)

We are to strive for perfection by making that phone call, paying that visit, forgiving that hurt, loving those who are difficult to love…and the list goes on.

We don’t have to remain imperfect people. Happy Sunday

Something About Romans

Do you have a favorite book in the Bible? I have several but today will lean on the book of Romans which has been a blessing to me for many years. Here are a few scriptures from that book.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2

Love must be sincere. Romans 12:9

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Romans 12:15

Live in harmony with one another. Romans 12:16

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18

Life is Precious

When I wrote my book “My Precious Life” in 2014 I had heard this expression many times but didn’t pay much attention to its meaning. Now, as I watch what’s happening the world over, millions of people dying of the coronavirus, others succumbing to life’s natural cycle, it is hitting home just how precious life is.

Are we really living on a daily basis? Are we making the most of our days? Are we looking out for our friends, family, neighbor? Are we saying, “I love you” and then showing that love?

There is more to life than eating, sleeping, working and playing, and because life is precious we need to make sure we are truly living.

Today I am going to make a concentrated effort to really live. I don’t know what that will look like but will let God handle the details. Carpe diem!

Let Your Love Grow

The antidote to all things wrong in this world is love. What our topsy-turvy planet needs now is this antidote. So come on world, in the words of the Bellamy Brothers (1976) let your love grow…and grow and grow…

Just for Today

It’s been awhile since a poem has composed itself in my mind and with never knowing what the next day will bring in this world of uncertainty, here is Just For Today:

Just for today…

may your sun shine a little brighter,

may your pain be less severe

may your eyes behold the beautiful

may sweet sounds fill your ear

may your thoughts be full of gladness

may good things come your way

may your heart be filled with love and peace

just for today.

 

Little Things Mean a Lot

It goes without saying that I am a hopeless romantic and always have been. Hearing about wedding anniversaries of fifty, sixty and even seventy years can turn my heart to mush. Likewise, stories of couples meeting, falling in love and marrying in their eighties and nineties makes my heart even mushier. I’ve been told that in both types of these relationships it’s the little things that matter. Here is a song from 1953 that says it all, but besides the romanticism of the song, it speaks of the need for the human touch which many of us are lacking at this time. Happy Saturday.
