A Piece of Cake

We’ve all heard or spoken the phrase, “It’s a piece of cake!” or “It was a piece of cake!” or “It will be a piece of cake!”

This well known idiom is a way of saying something was very easy to accomplish. Sometimes our days are not so easy to get through and we need someone to encourage us with this lovely message that I received in my inbox last week. Happy Saturday.

There Is Always Hope

Suddenly there seems to be much sad news coming my way. Families of friends are becoming ill, some to the point of no return. In the news people are being randomly killed for no known reason. As one lady I know begins treatment for advancing cancer, she commented, “This too shall pass.”

Which brings me to today’s message…there is always hope.

Sharing the Blessings

Yesterday we shared the grief of the residents of Humboldt and surrounding areas. People around the world have poured out their support in many various ways and continue to do so.

Likewise, there are many ways of sharing our spiritual blessings and I believe my blog and my book, both titled My Precious Life, are the ways God has provided me with this kind of sharing. I don’t know about you, but I appreciate the ways people share their blessings with me and I’m thankful to all of you who do so.

Rev. Matthew Ruttan of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Barrie, Ontario is responsible for this new life lesson this morning. He can be found at https://matthewruttan.com/

Timely Messages

Once again I have come across a lovely message in one of my spiritual journals. It is from a 2007 Our Daily Bread article and goes like this:

“To show his love, Jesus died for me; to show my love, I must live for him.”

And here’s one from Pearl Bailey: People see God every day; they just don’t recognize him.

Another is from Winston Churchill: Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it’s the courage to continue that counts.

We can’t change the past but we can change the future by making the right choices today. Joel Osteen

It is better to get wisdom and understanding rather than silver and gold. Proverbs 16:16 paraphrased

Make me a channel of your peace…St. Francis of Assisi

Jesus wept. John 11:35 …This for the grief stricken in Humboldt, Saskatchewan.

Hearing is Even Better

Only Listen. That was the title of my blog on March 22nd. This morning I read a post by Faith Unblocked, “Lydia” where the author quoted Acts 16:14, One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.

My grandmother’s name was Lydia, although she didn’t deal in purple cloth that I can remember.  I mentioned her in my book, My Precious Life, which was part of Sunday’s blog.

The fact is this…a quote from Pinterest came my way on Sunday. God says, “Prepare yourself, I’m about to take you to a new level in your life.”

Now, I’m a listener, and when I read that quote I got excited, and am still excited to see what the next step in my spiritual life will be. I have no doubt that there will be a next step.

Listening is really good…hearing is even better.

An Interesting Question

Have you let God’s call go to voicemail? Isn’t that an interesting question?

Our new associate pastor/pastoral care leader said that this was what led her into ministry. She had felt drawn to this profession most of her life, but pursued other avenues such as teaching and raising a family, always putting the “nudges” onto a back burner of her life, until one Sunday she heard a sermon with the title “Have You Let God’s Call Go To Voicemail?”

Monica said it had a profound effect on her and prompted her to answer “the Call” that had been a quiet and steady urging for years.

Yesterday, our church had the honor of inducting this dedicated woman as Associate Minister of the pastoral charge.

I, for one, am very happy that Monica retrieved God’s message, followed his guidance, and is now an integral part of St. Andrew’s.

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)
