Possibilities

Possibilities abound in life; it is up to each individual to discover this in their own way. I just read about Nick Vujicic who was born without arms or legs and is a living dynamo of possibilities. Nick keeps a pair of shoes in his closet in the event that God will give him feet. That’s what keeps Nick so positive and upbeat most of the time…the hope that all things are possible. Happy Sunday.

Choose Happiness

Happiness Day came and went without my knowing a thing about it…but I do know I was happy. Why? Because lately many things have happened in my life to put my happiness quotient over the top.

Things like surprise visits from family, an enjoyable planned visit, a St. Patrick’s concert that was full of fun, and other special little things kept a smile on my face and in my heart for quite a few days.

Of course many things happen to dampen one’s happiness, but given a choice, most of us choose to be happy if it is in the realm of possibility.

One thing that added to my smiles was learning that Finland is the happiest country in the world. Why would that make me happy? My grandparents and their parents were from Finland. I love Finnish food. I really like seeing a Finnish name on the back of a hockey jersey…doesn’t matter what team it is.

All I’m saying is I didn’t need a Happiness Day to make me happy. It happened without my knowing it. Keep smiling.

All In the Way You See It

We all see things differently, don’t we? And that’s a good thing because it can become a great topic of conversation, and, in some cases we may see things in a way that opens us to new possibilities. Take for instance the eagle in this picture…it is posted as an eagle flying over water. My first reaction was an eagle doing push-ups. How do you see it?

Help My Unbelief

You know what? I’m no theologian, clergy person, or Bible scholar, but I am a strong believer with an abundance of faith, and tend to take God’s promises seriously. However, I am not naive enough to expect that even though my motto is “All Things Are Possible” that all things are going to be possible. There are some limitations to human expectations and experiences.

It’s wonderful to pray for and with people who, despite limitations being a possibility, still hope enough to entertain the possibility that their prayers can and will be answered. Believing is a huge part of experiencing answered prayers.

There are those of us who pray that our belief and faith will trump the doubt on the recipient’s part, and so go ahead and pray for miracles. Some will say that this gives false hope. False or not, all hope is conducive to positive feelings which help people expect the best outcome for their situation…come what may.

Alexander Pope wrote in An Essay on Man, “Hope springs eternal in the human breast”…

Mark tells the story of the healing of a boy with an evil spirit since childhood. The boy’s father begged Jesus, “…if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “If you can?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.” The boy’s father responded, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Jesus then relieved the boy of the evil spirit. (Mark 9:14-29)

Help my unbelief…what a pleading, positive and powerful prayer.

Rebooting Relationships

Dissension depletes my energy level. Somewhere in one of my self-reflections I admitted to disliking dissension, confrontation, petty peevishness, pessimism and poop scooping. (The only doggie bag I carry is from a restaurant!)

At times in 2014 all of the above (except the doggie thing) cropped up in my life to the detriment of some of my relationships. Some were remedied but one lingered on until today, when I decided it was not going to accompany me into a brand new year if I could help it.

And so I rebooted a relationship. It was frosty at first and I was tempted to abort the whole thing, but perseverence is one of my strengths and what could have been a three minute phone flop turned into an hour-long healing conversation.

Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live in peace with everyone.

Rebooting relationships is a good thing if it is possible, as far as it depends on you.
