Call on Your Power

And then there is the poem I wrote in 1998:

THE POWER OF YOU

If you would be more powerful

release your ego

let it soar

let the roar of you subside,

see the power of you

to empower others.

Our Power is not to be mistaken for the power wielded by those who use and abuse it because they feel basically powerless in their own right. That power is actually a weakness.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty Power. Ephesians 6:10

 

No Place for Arrogance

Yesterday, a tradesman came by to give me a quote on something needing repair. His attitude was one of superiority and arrogance. No matter the price of the job, do you think he is going to get my business?

It is said that arrogance is a personality trait forged in childhood. If so, like many childhood traits, this lesser part of our personalities needs to be done away with and replaced with a dash of humility.

If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Our land does need healing and so does that contractor’s attitude. In a world needing compassion and understanding more than anything else there is no place for arrogance.

Moving Mountains

Someone called me last night to find out where in the Bible did a mountain move.

I couldn’t think of the answer because I’m not sure that a mountain physically moved, but I did tell her about having a faith strong enough to move mountains.

If you have faith the size of a mustard seed you will say to this mountain move from here to there and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20

Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Mark 11:23

If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2

Armchair Golfer

I guess you could call me an armchair golfer; if I don’t feel like going out I’ll stay at home and putter or maybe iron a tee.

If I need some greens I’ll call a driver to take me out because it’s a fair way to the store.

Sometimes I like to walk in the woods, but I also enjoy going to a ball and a chance to bogey…(or is it boogie?)

Of course I love the birdies and often feel on par with them when I feel like soaring like an eagle.

My armchair golf shoes are worn out; there’s even a hole in one.

Am I handicapped being an armchair golfer? If you think so, please call fore! before you rough me up, take a swing at me, or cart me off for trying to know the game before I know the score.

Without Condemnation

Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife who loved to praise the Lord aloud in church. They were frowned upon for this by some of the congregants. Admittedly, ours is a staid Presbyterian church and these folks were from an Evangelical background where praising the Lord out loud was the norm.

I loved it when our choir would conclude an anthem and this couple would “Praise the Lord!” aloud and in unison. It made me smile.

It really bothered me that they were criticized. Psalm 134:2 clearly states: Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.

This has been on my mind off and on for several years even though this couple has since passed away.

It makes me smile to picture George and Barbara in Heaven’s congregation heartily praising the Lord without condemnation. Happy Sunday.

Is There Any Hope?

In today’s world it seems things just go from bad to worse. The virus appears to ease off just to rear its head again in different parts of the globe. Violence and crime walk hand in hand; peaceful protests turn ugly; rulers bend the rules; fires, floods, ferocious winds and earthquakes ravish the earth. And we, the human race, ask, “Is there any hope?”

Scripture says, “For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” Romans 8:24-25

Doing What’s Right

The difference between doing right or wrong could, and often does lead to death. But do the perpetrators actually know the difference? I don’t think so because I don’t want to believe that humans can be that callous and cruel.

There Is Always Hope

Many of us are truly horrified with what’s going on in our world today. Revelation tells us that Jesus has a vision for our world and what it will be like. It may not be in your time or mine, but there is always hope. Happy Sunday.

Blessings

There are so many ways in which blessings come to us; visits, caring phone calls and emails. People asking for prayer and someone saying they are praying for us are blessings. Getting an unexpected hug in times of social distancing is a definite blessing. Knowing God loves us and is with us always is the ultimate blessing. In these uncertain times, it is so good to know that. Happy Sunday.

Not an Easy Road

We all know of the heartbreaking death of George Floyd on May 25th. Whatever his past deeds, this cruel and callous end to his life was not warranted. It has not been an easy road for George and his people and the road ahead will not be easy, but all of us can be a part of justice and world change by keeping the picture of Mr. Floyd’s brutal death alive in our hearts and minds. This atrocity should never again touch a black life, or any life for that matter. Peace be with you.
