Bring On That Smile

There are lessons in living everywhere we look.

When I opened my curtains yesterday morning, two little bunnies were chasing each other around the yard at speeds I didn’t think rabbits could reach. It made me smile my face off and laugh out loud.

At lunch time I tossed a few crumbs of croissant into the yard and before the crumbs completely left my hand, a chickadee was devouring one. That also made me smile.

And then this came my way on the Internet. Happy Saturday.

For The Birds

Sometimes it is the smallest thing that can bring an instant smile to one’s face…like the beautiful little birds in our own gardens. Today, I pay tribute to these feathered friends who make me smile on a daily basis. That’s why this post is for the birds.

“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?” Matthew 6:26

How Do I Love Thee?

Some people will read no further than this title thinking that because of the word “thee” it will be of Biblical content. Not so. It is actually from the poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861)…How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways. However, I am going to put a new spin on it because I am moved to do so.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.

I love you with compassion in your thoughtless ways.

I love you when your ire is up and when your guard is down.

I love you for infrequent smiles that are your very own.

I love you in the times you let your inner bully win.

I love you more for times when you reign that bully in.

I love you in the many ways that you appear aloof.

I love you when uncalled for, you offer up reproof.

I love you though these things are not the you you’re meant to be.

How do I love you? Unconditionally.

Has the time come for all people to come to the aid of our world? Can we do with unconditional love whatever is in our capacity to do to heal our brokenness? Can we ask with Elizabeth Barrett Browning, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”

Happy Weekend Anyway

After attending a cousin’s funeral yesterday, I wondered how many of the people who also attended would enjoy a happy weekend. It came to me that because my cousin, until her Alzheimer journey, had been such a happy, upbeat person , no matter what touched her life, she still managed a smile. Was it always a happy smile? Maybe not, but even after attending her funeral, remembering her beautiful smile makes me happy anyway.

Whatever It Takes

The way to a happy weekend is to make someone else’s weekend happy. What can we do to accomplish such a fine feat? Look for a way to make someone’s day; a phone call, a visit, a hug, a handshake…whatever it takes to put a smile on a face. Happy weekend.

Still Smiling

Just thinking about pleasant things can put a smile on your face…go ahead and try it, especially when feelings of sadness, frustration, loneliness, melancholy, etc., creep up on you. I’m still in smiling mode after finding this picture for my Happy Sunday blog.
