The Silver Cord

A young friend of mine just lost her mother to life’s final chapter. My friend was with her mom at the end and described her as a “beautiful, sweet, little soul.” And she was; a lovely dedicated Christian woman who never forgot who the Lord of her life was. It reminded me of Ecclesiastes 12:6 … Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed…and that reminded me of this hymn. Happy Sunday.

A Must

Our sermon today is the last in a series on forgiveness and features the story of the prodigal son. It has been an eye-opening, heart-stirring, mind-opening series. Yesterday I found this picture and thought, how fitting for this Sunday’s post. To my way of thinking, to have a peaceful life, forgiveness is a must. Happy Sunday.

Prayer for Protection

In 1977, while on vacation in Trinidad, I was introduced to Silent Unity, a 24/7 prayer ministry using affirmative prayer to provide others with faith, courage and strength. A delightful old woman named Miss gave me their devotional magazine, Daily Word, to take home. I subscribed to it for many years and have recently been re-introduced to this wonderful organization. The following prayer has been in my possession for over forty years and is within my daily vision. Happy Sunday.

“The light of God surrounds me; The love of God enfolds me; The power of God protects me; The presence of God watches over me. Wherever I am, God is!” James Dillet Freeman (March 20, 1912 – April 9, 2003)

All Creatures Great and Small

We never know when something uplifting will come our way or from whence it will come. In this case I was uplifted by a picture and a memory and a reminder that I am still a kid at heart.

When I saw this little guy in my Inbox yesterday it reminded me of a wonderful little song I learned as a child, “God Sees the Little Sparrow Fall.” Here is one verse and the refrain. Happy Sunday.

God made the little birds and flow’rs,
And all things large and small;
He’ll not forget his little ones,
I know He loves them all.
He loves me, too, He loves me, too,
I know He loves me, too;
Because He loves the little things,
I know He loves me, too.

Armchair Golfer

I guess you could call me an armchair golfer; if I don’t feel like going out I’ll stay at home and putter or maybe iron a tee.

If I need some greens I’ll call a driver to take me out because it’s a fair way to the store.

Sometimes I like to walk in the woods, but I also enjoy going to a ball and a chance to bogey…(or is it boogie?)

Of course I love the birdies and often feel on par with them when I feel like soaring like an eagle.

My armchair golf shoes are worn out; there’s even a hole in one.

Am I handicapped being an armchair golfer? If you think so, please call fore! before you rough me up, take a swing at me, or cart me off for trying to know the game before I know the score.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;” 2 Timothy 4:7 Happy Sunday.

PS: God does have a sense of humor. ‘He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. Job 8: 21

Prayerfully Yours

Here are a few prayers to think about and/or practice at your leisure. They come to me from everywhere…books, devotionals, sermons, and even the ether. Happy Sunday.

Thank you loving Father, for watching over all seasons of my life. Help me to trust in you and enjoy the life you’ve given me. (Our Daily Bread)

Jesus Christ, the great I AM, have mercy on me. (to be repeated until desired effect is felt)

My Father in Heaven, Infinite Spirit of life and love and wisdom and power, in whom I live and move and have my being, whence cometh my help, manifest Thyself in me. Help me to open myself to the highest wisdom and insight and love and power, that I may serve Thee and my fellow-man, and all my fellow-creatures faithfully, and that I may have the Divine guidance and care, and that all my needs be supplied. Oh Christ within, enfold and lead me and reign supreme, that the One Life that is my life I may realize and manifest ever more fully. I am strong in the Infinite Spirit of life and love and wisdom and power. I have and shall have the Divine guidance and care; for it is the Father that worketh in me – My Father works and I work. Amen. Ralph Waldo Trine (In Tune With the Infinite)

Without Condemnation

Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife who loved to praise the Lord aloud in church. They were frowned upon for this by some of the congregants. Admittedly, ours is a staid Presbyterian church and these folks were from an Evangelical background where praising the Lord out loud was the norm.

I loved it when our choir would conclude an anthem and this couple would “Praise the Lord!” aloud and in unison. It made me smile.

It really bothered me that they were criticized. Psalm 134:2 clearly states: Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.

This has been on my mind off and on for several years even though this couple has since passed away.

It makes me smile to picture George and Barbara in Heaven’s congregation heartily praising the Lord without condemnation. Happy Sunday.

Is There Any Hope?

In today’s world it seems things just go from bad to worse. The virus appears to ease off just to rear its head again in different parts of the globe. Violence and crime walk hand in hand; peaceful protests turn ugly; rulers bend the rules; fires, floods, ferocious winds and earthquakes ravish the earth. And we, the human race, ask, “Is there any hope?”

Scripture says, “For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” Romans 8:24-25

The following song keeps me hopeful. Happy Sunday.

Doing What’s Right

The difference between doing right or wrong could, and often does lead to death. But do the perpetrators actually know the difference? I don’t think so because I don’t want to believe that humans can be that callous and cruel.

Here are a few quotes on doing what’s right:

Do what is right, not what is easy. Roy T. Bennett

The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it. Norman Schwarzkopf

Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. C.S. Lewis

Knowing what’s right doesn’t mean much unless you do what’s right. Theodore Roosevelt

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

You can’t do wrong by doing right.

Happy Sunday.
