More Powerful Words

Our pastor recently mentioned a quote by Winston Churchill which made me think of the battle we are fighting in today’s world.

Never was so much owed by so many to so few” was a wartime speech made by the British prime minister, Winston Churchill, in August 1940. He was referring to the pilots of the Royal Air Force, who fought so fiercely in the Battle of Britain. They were sorely outnumbered.

To me, this applies to all the front line workers who are too few for the too many who are suffering from the corona virus. Doctors, nurses, all medical and scientific personnel waging war against the battle of Covid, to save lives while risking their own.

As the RAF crews experienced victory in the past, may those on this new frontier experience the same victorious outcome as new battling words are spoken: “Mask up, keep a distance, wash your hands.”

Never was so much owed by so many to so few.”

The Week that Was

It started with Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. His devoted followers were waving palm branches, and spreading them on the path before him. According to Wikipedia, the palm branch is a symbol of victory, triumph, peace, and eternal life originating in the ancient Near East and Mediterranean world.

What the crowds did not know that day was that Jesus was riding towards his death. His death would fulfill the plan that He had come to earth for thirty-three years earlier; the plan that included a trial, a scourging, and a crucifixion; the plan that He agreed to, to save humanity from the power of sin.

We know today as Palm Sunday, and the week to come as Holy week, but after Easter it will be remembered as the week that was. Happy Sunday.

The Matter of Change

Yesterday, during my quiet time I came across some very interesting quotes about how to go about changing ourselves.

Self awareness is the first step to self improvement.

A change in behavior begins with a change in heart.

We defeat ourselves or gain victories by the thoughts we think.

Become addicted to constant and never-ending self improvement.

Never neglect an opportunity for self improvement.

When you look in the mirror see more than your face…see your self.

Put off your old self….to be made new in the attitudes of your minds. (Ephesians 4:22,23)

Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2)
