Yesterday I came across some meanings of the way animals are used in everyday speech.
Pig headed…………obstinate, willful
Bird brain…………annoyingly stupid and shallow (not in my books!)
Horse’s ass…………”well rounded” or stupid and annoying
Monkey’s uncle…………complete surprise or disbelief
Cat’s meow…………excellent, stylish
The bee’s knees…………(yes, they have knees to help carry pollen) an outstandingly good person or thing
It’s a dog’s life…………life is difficult, unpleasant, or boring. (not the dogs I know!)
It’s a dog’s dinner…………a poor piece of work, a mess (some dogs eat better than I do!)
Until the cow’s come home…………indefinitely long time
When pigs can fly…………ultimately never
So there you have it. Next time someone calls you a horse’s ass take it as a compliment! 🙂
The inclination of the cranium is as good as the spasmatic movement of one optic toward an etang quadruped devoid of it’s visionary capacity. Since we are on an animal theme today Ornothological specimens of identical plumage frequently congregate in the closest possible proximity. That one “Is for the Birds” I know I’m intoxicated by the exuberance of my own verbosity.
