The fact that the earth is round is said to have come from such scholars as Aristotle (385BC), Pythagoras (570BC), Eratosthenes (276BC) and maybe others. However the fact is that the prophet Isaiah (740BC) wrote in the Bible: He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth…(Isaiah 40:22)

There are many different versions of where the phrase “knock on wood” originated. The meaning is similar to warding off bad luck. It’s easy to research the origins but I won’t go into that here. Suffice to say this is not one of them. This is the Male Northern Flicker Woodpecker knocking on wood. Just a bit of trivia…Happy Wednesday.

In today’s world it seems things just go from bad to worse. The virus appears to ease off just to rear its head again in different parts of the globe. Violence and crime walk hand in hand; peaceful protests turn ugly; rulers bend the rules; fires, floods, ferocious winds and earthquakes ravish the earth. And we, the human race, ask, “Is there any hope?”
Scripture says, “For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” Romans 8:24-25

It goes without saying that I am a hopeless romantic and always have been. Hearing about wedding anniversaries of fifty, sixty and even seventy years can turn my heart to mush. Likewise, stories of couples meeting, falling in love and marrying in their eighties and nineties makes my heart even mushier. I’ve been told that in both types of these relationships it’s the little things that matter. Here is a song from 1953 that says it all, but besides the romanticism of the song, it speaks of the need for the human touch which many of us are lacking at this time. Happy Saturday.
How many would agree that our world is in a precarious position at this moment in time? With so much talk of working together and thinking of others, let’s also add a little bit more of what the world needs now. I can just hear you singing your heart out.
