Armchair Golfer

I guess you could call me an armchair golfer; if I don’t feel like going out I’ll stay at home and putter or maybe iron a tee.

If I need some greens I’ll call a driver to take me out because it’s a fair way to the store.

Sometimes I like to walk in the woods, but I also enjoy going to a ball and a chance to bogey…(or is it boogie?)

Of course I love the birdies and often feel on par with them when I feel like soaring like an eagle.

My armchair golf shoes are worn out; there’s even a hole in one.

Am I handicapped being an armchair golfer? If you think so, please call fore! before you rough me up, take a swing at me, or cart me off for trying to know the game before I know the score.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;” 2 Timothy 4:7 Happy Sunday.

PS: God does have a sense of humor. ‘He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. Job 8: 21

Some Saturday Fun

Yesterday I read that laughter is good for the heart so I looked up some jokes on the internet.

How do you keep a bagel from getting away? Put lox on it.

A man tells his doctor, “Doc, help me. I’m addicted to Twitter!” The doctor replies, “Sorry, I don’t follow you…”

What kind of exercise do lazy people do? Diddly-squats.

What did the Tin Man say when he got run over by a steamroller? “Curses! Foil again!”

What did the left eye say to the right eye? “Between you and me, something smells.”

How do you make a tissue dance? Put a little boogie in it.

What do you call a magic dog? A labracadabrador.

Why did the frog take the bus to work today? His car got toad away.

What did the buffalo say when his son left for college? Bison.

Once my dog ate all the Scrabble tiles. He kept leaving little messages around the house.

Paranoia has reached absurd stages. I sneezed in front of my laptop and the anti-virus started a scan on its own.

Anyone chuckling yet? Happy Saturday.

Fun with Oxymorons

ox·y·mo·ron
noun

I’d love to be in on it but include me out.

The deafening silence was heard by all.

It’s an open secret that I love jumbo shrimps.

I’m clearly confused by passive aggressive behavior.

If you fall and break your legs, don’t come running to me.

I’m not sure but I can give you a definite perhaps.

Thank God I’m an atheist.

It’s absolutely impossible, but it has possibilities.

You get the idea; now you can have fun with oxymorons too, or you may accept to decline the suggestion.

Brain Push-ups

Being between blogs, sheer boredom had me staring at the name on my body lotion container, Glysomed. While routinely rubbing the contents into my hands and arms, I began breaking the name down into as many different words as I could think of. I called this idle activity brain push-ups. It sounds somewhat like an activity don’t you think?

Bottom line is this one word, Glysomed, produced fifty 55 other words.

That was my brain push-up for the day…want to give it a try? Please let me know when you come up with more than fifty-five words, and accept my congratulations on being the best at brain push-ups. Happy Tuesday.

Prayerfully Yours

Here are a few prayers to think about and/or practice at your leisure. They come to me from everywhere…books, devotionals, sermons, and even the ether. Happy Sunday.

Thank you loving Father, for watching over all seasons of my life. Help me to trust in you and enjoy the life you’ve given me. (Our Daily Bread)

Jesus Christ, the great I AM, have mercy on me. (to be repeated until desired effect is felt)

My Father in Heaven, Infinite Spirit of life and love and wisdom and power, in whom I live and move and have my being, whence cometh my help, manifest Thyself in me. Help me to open myself to the highest wisdom and insight and love and power, that I may serve Thee and my fellow-man, and all my fellow-creatures faithfully, and that I may have the Divine guidance and care, and that all my needs be supplied. Oh Christ within, enfold and lead me and reign supreme, that the One Life that is my life I may realize and manifest ever more fully. I am strong in the Infinite Spirit of life and love and wisdom and power. I have and shall have the Divine guidance and care; for it is the Father that worketh in me – My Father works and I work. Amen. Ralph Waldo Trine (In Tune With the Infinite)

Out of the Ordinary

There are so many things on the face of this earth that are unexplainable, unbelievable, and out of the ordinary. I love when I stumble on one of them like this beauty. This is the caption that accompanied it: Can you believe how beautiful this bird is – God does good work!!! If God cares this much about a bird, can you only imagine how much he loves us. Just look at those colors! Happy Saturday.

Just for Today

It’s been awhile since a poem has composed itself in my mind and with never knowing what the next day will bring in this world of uncertainty, here is Just For Today:

Just for today…

may your sun shine a little brighter,

may your pain be less severe

may your eyes behold the beautiful

may sweet sounds fill your ear

may your thoughts be full of gladness

may good things come your way

may your heart be filled with love and peace

just for today.

Without Condemnation

Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife who loved to praise the Lord aloud in church. They were frowned upon for this by some of the congregants. Admittedly, ours is a staid Presbyterian church and these folks were from an Evangelical background where praising the Lord out loud was the norm.

I loved it when our choir would conclude an anthem and this couple would “Praise the Lord!” aloud and in unison. It made me smile.

It really bothered me that they were criticized. Psalm 134:2 clearly states: Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.

This has been on my mind off and on for several years even though this couple has since passed away.

It makes me smile to picture George and Barbara in Heaven’s congregation heartily praising the Lord without condemnation. Happy Sunday.

The Sound of Silence

When we hear the sound of silence it is imperative to stop and listen. It comes in the form of stillness. It comes to everyone at one time or another; the key is to be aware and allow it to unfold.

Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves together; that at length they may emerge, full-formed and majestic, into the delight of life, which they are thenceforth to rule.  Thomas Carlyle

Mother Theresa said: “The most important thing is silence. We cannot place ourselves directly in God’s presence without imposing upon ourselves interior and exterior silence.”

And Simon and Garfunkel had this to say about the Sound of Silence. Happy Saturday.
