Was That Supernatural?

Following is one of the meanings of the word supernatural as found in The Mirriam-Webster Dictionary: departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature

Having said that, would the following narrative meet that criteria?

Friday, May 8th would have marked the 66th anniversary of the date I married the father of my five children. His name was Bill Boyes and he died in 1992. While having breakfast Friday morning, I silently said, “Hey, Bill, if you remember this would have been our 66th anniversary, could you let me know in some way?”
Later, while watching the noon news, a fire captain was describing a house fire. His name came up on the screen….BILL BOYES.
Was that supernatural?

About God’s Plans

For those of us who believe that God has a plan for our lives, we need only look in the Bible for confirmation:

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. Genesis 1:26

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me…Psalm 138:8

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord…Jeremiah 29:11

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. – Proverbs 19:21

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. – Proverbs 16:9

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. – Psalm 32:8

But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.” – 2 Corinthians 2:9

The Lord of hosts has sworn: “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand. – Isaiah 14:24

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8

And finally: How do you make God laugh? Tell him your plans for the future.  Happy Sunday.

Be Transformed

Here is a scripture that profoundly changed my life once I truly realized its meaning. When we begin to change our way of thinking and open up to the fact that there is more to this world than the day to day physical activities, grudges, hurts, etc., then a whole new life begins to take shape. Simply put, change your way of thinking. Go ahead…be transformed. Happy Monday.

A Garden Not Forgotten

It’s time to put a poem on the page. This was written for a gentleman in long term care in 2005. His name was Mr. Flowers and learning that I wrote poetry, he asked if I would write a poem for him. Hence A Garden Not Forgotten. This was first posted in 2014. Happy Saturday.

A garden full of flowers

tended in the mind with care

or tended not at all

if wildflower seed is planted there

will reap its keeper plenitude

in fragrant showy splendor

and bring the memory of spring

come blustery December.

Blooms spring forth upon the mind,

deep wine rose and purple phlox,

daffodils of yellow,

multicolored hollyhocks

replace the snow and blizzards

in the darkened winter hours

and keep alive in mind’s great eye

that garden full of flowers.

Mind’s garden keeps on growing;

wild winds and winter snow

won’t whip the fragrant flowers

that mind has come to grow.

The seeds are firmly planted

in the fertile soil of thought

where that garden full of flowers

also blooms forget-me-nots.

A Precious Gift

Our choir director, Pascal Kalumbi, is a very gifted pianist. He has given me permission to share this and I do so for all who love music, piano, and the beauty of a precious gift. Enjoy…and I know you will. Happy Saturday.

Reassurance

Who of us doesn’t need some reassurance at this time that everything is going to be alright. How many of us need to know that though we may be alone and have to keep a distance between ourselves and all others outside our homes, we have the assurance that we are never really alone. Take heart; as Joshua 1;9 says, Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Happy Sunday.

An Exercise in Movement

Sitting for too long is not good for us. Body parts can seize up and movement becomes slower and perhaps a little more difficult.

This made me think of my poor car. It has been sitting in the garage for six weeks with only one five-minute outing in all that time. I thought of all the fluids a car needs to use to keep it mobile. Mine was not using its fluids at all. I thought of the brakes…would they seize up after all that sitting? I thought of the tires; would they flatten with the weight of the auto body sitting on them all that time without movement?

Feeling a little guilty, I took my car out for some exercise yesterday. The brakes groaned their thanks, the tires happily hummed along the roads, and the gas tank gurgled its pleasure. All the other fluids silently came to life doing their singular jobs of keeping their vehicle running smoothly. I was particularly proud of the engine; it did not balk once at being called into action after a six week hiatus.

For sure it was an exercise in movement for the car as well as me. I got to lift my foot on and off the gas pedal and brake, shift my torso in and out of the vehicle, flick my fingers over the signals, and my hands and arms engaged in steering a thirty-three-hundred or so hunk of metal around bends and curves.

That was yesterday. Today my car and I will go back to sitting. Happy Saturday.
