Know Your Rights

Bad temper is a barrier to relationships but you have a right to be angry, nasty, miserable, whatever. Does that make it right?

You have a right to be depressed. You also have the right to overcome it.

You have a right to be negative. But why would you want to be?

You have a right to be positive.

You have a right to be free from anxiety.

You have a right to be even tempered and placid.

Know your rights.

Happiness With Help

When it’s hard to be happy while living with chronic pain or receiving sad news, God offers this:

“I will strengthen you, I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Happy Sunday

Happiness Is…

This morning I read this quote by the late Dr. Robert Schuller:

“At the core of every being is the desire to be happy. Happiness is a state of mind and is achieved by choice. You can be happy in any set of circumstances if you choose to be.”

Happy Saturday.

To Be Afraid or Not to be Afraid

So many people tell me how much they are afraid of what could go wrong today, tomorrow, or whenever. When we stop to analyze this it would be so much healthier, both for mind and body, to think about all the things that could go right. That’s more of an exciting way to live.

The Gravity Of It All

It is very special to think about those people who are manning spaceships and “walking in space” to maintain them.

It is also special to think that every day we, in a way, are also walking in space as our planet makes it’s twenty-four hour spin around the sun, thanks to the gravity of it all. Happy Saturday.

An Error in Time

On Monday, Oct. 21, I posted What are the Chances. One of my sons has corrected me on the time frame of that memory.

I noted that my niece had passed away twenty years ago at the age of eighteen when in fact it was forty years ago.

On my part that was a simple error in time. But time does have a way of passing so quickly that we do lose track of it.

Does that make the recording of last Thursday’s event any more impactful? I’m not sure. What I am sure of is that whether it was one year or fifty years in time passage, the impact on me that day will remain with me for the rest of my life.

What are the Chances?

My name is Patricia Ann Boyes.

Last Thursday I was on a bus trip from Scarborough, Ontario to Cambridge, Ontario to attend a production of Annie at the Hamilton Family Theater.

On the armrests of some of the theater seats were small memorial plaques in memory of someone’s loved one who had passed away.

The memorial plaque on my seat read, Joanne Louise Boyes. It took my breath away.

Joanne was my niece. She died twenty years ago at the tender age of eighteen years.

This theater has a five-hundred seat capacity and busloads of people attended the performance of “Annie” that day.

What are the chances that Patricia Ann Boyes would occupy the seat dedicated to Joanne Louise Boyes, the niece whose life had sadly  ended all those years ago.

I repeat…what are the chances?
