Be at Peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 NIV

Sometimes all we need in our lives is a little peace. Happy Sunday.

To Your Self Be True

This is a repeat of a 2015 post because there are some younger people who need to hear it today (maybe some older also).

Act in the way that is true to your intelligence and beliefs.

Remember that no one can rob you of your power unless you allow them to do so.

Stand tall and face indignity with dignity, and indecency with decency.

Look truth in the face and use it to overcome deceit.

Remember the respect you have for yourself and those you love, and let no one rob you of that respect.

Always use your inner strength to walk away from a bad situation, and where possible take someone with you who needs to lean on your strength until they discover their own.

Remember that you are loved dearly by those who matter. Love yourself just as dearly, always.

Faith Can Make it So

For many of us, life is not easy. We have times of grief, illness, pain, upsets, indecision…all the things that come with being alive. But it is possible, if not easy, to overcome at least some of the things that make our lives difficult. Faith can make it so. Happy Sunday.

Don’t Talk About the Weather

It would be nice to sit and chat with you over coffee or a tea.

You would catch me up on your life and news

And ask the same of me.

We would share our happiness and woes

We would laugh and cry together

But the one thing that we wouldn’t do

Is talk about the weather!

It’s too hot,

It’s too cold,

It’s too wet

And it’s too…ugh!

Then, we’d end our conversation

With a huge and heartfelt hug!

Happy Saturday.

But Do We?

“In God We Trust” appears on most if not all American currency. But do we?

Trusting God completely means having faith that he knows what is best for our lives. But do we?

Surrendering to him brings freedom not bondage. But do we?

These are not just mere words but a way of life.

We all have choices.  It is good to trust and surrender completely.

We all have freedom to make the right choices. But do we?

Happy Sunday.

Oh What a Beautiful Day

I know that somewhere in the world there are snow storms, hurricanes, earthquakes and the like. But in my little corner of the world the sun is shining, the air is still, the leaves are moving gently on the trees and the temperature is perfect. It reminds me of an old song on a new day. Happy Saturday.

Born Again?

“Are you a born again Christian?” This was a question posed to me a few months ago and I wasn’t sure how to respond. And so I didn’t. I changed the subject to allow myself time to digest the question and be certain of  my answer.

John 3:1-20 gives us a conversation between Nicodemus and Jesus about this very topic and Jesus tells the man, “You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again.'”

Some of my research on born again turned up phrases such as ,”spiritual renewal” “spiritual transformation” and I have definitely had experiences in both of these. I also found that the Greek meaning is “born from above.”

Here is a point of view from a sermon of years ago: “All those who put their trust in Christ, even though they have times of doubt, have been born from above and have been given the gift of the Spirit.”

So…am I a born again Christian? Most definitely.

Color Your World

If you don’t have the time to look for different things to color your world, let me inject some color into your weekend. This beautiful bird poster came to me via Pinterest and it’s too beautiful to keep to myself. Happy Saturday.

Change Can Be Good

We sometimes think that change can be detrimental to our lives when in fact it can be very good for us. I’m thinking mostly of changes we make in ourselves and our thinking. It is interesting how scripture speaks of change. Happy Sunday

Be transformed by the renewing of your minds. Romans 12:2

If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly…Jeremiah 7:5

Unless you change…Matthew 18:3

We will all be changed…1 Corinthians 15:51

To be made new in the attitudes of your minds…Ephesians 4:23

And then there’s the Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
