Such Good Company

Here’s a list of people you may know who all have more than one thing in common:

Nicholas Copernicus                   1473-1543

Sir Francis Bacon                        1561-1627

Johannes Kepler                         1571-1630

Galileo                                           1564-1642

Rene Descartes                            1596-1650

Isaac Newton                                1642-1727

Robert Boyle                                1627-1691

Michael Faraday                          1791-1867

Gregor Mendez                            1822-1884

Wm. Thomson Kelvin                 1824-1907

Max Planck                                  1858-1947

Albert Einstein                            1879-1955

Not only were these people well known scientists, they all believed in God, as in the case of Sir Isaac Newton, the father of modern physics. He was a committed Christian who claimed the universe’s orderliness came from its creator.

Not being of scientific or academic mind, as a believer I am delighted to be in such good company.

God’s Prayer to Us

Have you ever thought of a prayer roll reversal? What if God sent a prayer to us? Yesterday, I wondered what God would say to us in a prayer. Here’s what I came up with:

My Earthly People

I have been watching your troubled world for quite some time now and pray that you would take these few suggestions as to how you might turn things around.

Your environment is in big trouble. It is going to take more than demonstrations to set it right. It is going to take all world leaders, not just a few, to acknowledge the problem and make intelligent decisions. It is also going to take the world population as a whole to do their part. I pray that all of you will take the necessary steps to save your planet.

Your love for one another is sadly lacking. This is obvious from the wars, terrorism, senseless killings, starvation and disease that plague your world. People who love each other do not tolerate this behavior, and, once again, would make intelligent decisions to rectify these situations. I pray that you would do all in your power (and mine) to recognize and eradicate such behavior.

Your daily lives are sadly lacking in love and respect, not only for each other, but for yourselves. You have been taught love from the moment of birth and somewhere along life’s path have either abandoned, forgotten, or ignored this love…not in all cases, but in many. Husbands and wives break their vows, parents pit children against one another, children come to believe that life is all about them, governments forget that they are elected for the betterment of the people, not the detriment.

You are my people and I want only the very best for you. I gave you free will, hoping you would use it wisely. Some of you have willingly and lovingly accepted me; others have deliberately denied my very existence.

It is my prayer that you will open your minds and hearts, and use your intelligence as intended.

You are my children and I love you dearly. Please hear my prayer.

Your Heavenly Father.

Exciting Words

On March 25th I copied these words from a Pinterest poster. They made me feel happy and excited…I still feel that way a month later.

God says, “Prepare yourself, I’m about to take you to a new level in your life.”

Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Happy Sunday to all.

From a Distance

Okay, so I guess with the exception of those responsible for such an inhumane act as the recent chemical attack in Syria that killed over seventy people including children, the rest of the world is trying to digest this disgusting act of depravity. A recent Facebook comment was that someone would have to pay for this atrocity…and someone will. The victims died a horrible death…and for what?

In the meantime, here in our own country, people are killing each other daily with knives, guns, cars and stupidity if I may be so blunt as to say so…like the person seen driving and texting on the 401 highway a couple of weeks ago. I’m told that this is a common occurrence…a common occurrence? Why is that?

We, as a concerned people see these things going on and wonder what can be done about them. One thing we should not do is become complacent. When we see it we should act on it whether it is by writing a letter, making a phone call, or bringing awareness by other means…or stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility for whatever infinitesimal part we may play in the unfolding of world chaos.

Whether we are witnessing and condoning by silence, or refusing to get involved, we are part of the problem if we continue to keep our distance.

Each time we turn our backs on family, ignore the helpless, pretend it’s okay to blame someone else for our own inadequacies, we are contributing to the atrocities of the world. You don’t think so? Just ask the One who is watching from a distance.

Hearing is Even Better

Only Listen. That was the title of my blog on March 22nd. This morning I read a post by Faith Unblocked, “Lydia” where the author quoted Acts 16:14, One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.

My grandmother’s name was Lydia, although she didn’t deal in purple cloth that I can remember.  I mentioned her in my book, My Precious Life, which was part of Sunday’s blog.

The fact is this…a quote from Pinterest came my way on Sunday. God says, “Prepare yourself, I’m about to take you to a new level in your life.”

Now, I’m a listener, and when I read that quote I got excited, and am still excited to see what the next step in my spiritual life will be. I have no doubt that there will be a next step.

Listening is really good…hearing is even better.

Only Listen

I read Revelation 1:17 this morning and it reminded me of a dream I had in 1991. Here it is in an excerpt from my book, My Precious Life.

The next time God spoke to me in a dream was 1991. I dreamed my family was gathered in an old farm house which had seen better days. As we exited the house, the overhang of the verandah collapsed, knocking all of us to the floor. I stood up and watched as everyone got to their feet except my eldest daughter and youngest son. As I gazed down at them lying there, still as statues, the thought came to me: My first and my last…why my first and my last? Once again I woke up with a tingly feeling, with the words, first and last, repeating in my mind. I felt no fear or foreboding, but that dream stayed with me for weeks until I came across Revelation 1:17 where Jesus says, “Do not be afraid, I am the first and the last”, confirming that he is truly in my life, and is always by my side, waking or sleeping. To this day though, Debbie and Kelly, my eldest daughter and youngest son, refuse to be on any covered verandah together.

I might add here that in verse 19, Jesus goes on to say, “Write, therefore, what you have seen…” which was one of the scriptures that prompted me to write the book.

I’m not sure why Revelation 1:17 came to me this morning, but I always love to be reminded of the many ways God speaks to us if we only listen.

Seeing God in Each Other

It is a well known fact that no one has ever seen God…or is it? Sometimes I get caught up in the whys and hows of the Bible and have always been intrigued by Genesis 1:27 about God making man in His image. 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The Bible then goes on to describe how God is in us. The following scriptures taken from the NIV (New International Version) attest to just that:

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:12

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 1 John 4:15

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Corinthians 3:16

Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you...2 Corinthians 13:5

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? 1 Corinthians 6:19

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. (Jesus) John 14:20

No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 1 John 3:9

And finally:

New Living Translation
But Jacob insisted, “No, if I have found favor with you, please accept this gift from me. And what a relief to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the face of God! Genesis 33:10 (Jacob speaking to his brother, Esau)

Here’s looking at you, God!

Easy Living

Do Not Worry – Matthew 6:25-27 NIV

25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Reading the above scripture led me to repost the following formula for easy living. Happy Sunday.

Drink the living water – (John 4:10)

Eat the bread of life – (John 6:35)

Wear the full armor of God – (Ephesians 6:11)

Rest in Jesus – (Matthew 11:28)

Breathe in the Holy Spirit – (John 20:22)

Give up the worry habit – (Matthew 6:25) (This one really taught me a lot!)

Laugh often – (Proverbs 17:22)

One Pair of Hands

Every once in awhile a song comes along that can move us to tears…joyful or otherwise…in my opinion this is one of them. How fitting for this time of Lent. How wonderful to believe. Thank you, Jesus.
