That Still Small Voice

We don’t have to be in a church, mosque, synagogue, temple…whatever…to hear that still small voice. We just need to listen and be aware that God wants to communicate with us. Listen to this:

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3 NIV

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way;walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 NIV

For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it.  Job 33:14 NIV

The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Exodus 33:11 NIV

Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” John 8:47 NIV

God’s Revelation to Elijah

11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but theLord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but theLord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a]a still small voice.

Happy Sunday.

Inner Peace

Profoundly and powerfully God has created into every human being the potential for inner peace and spirituality. (RHS)

May you experience profound inner peace today. Happy Sunday.

Suffering – Not What God Intended

Today’s blog comes from part of Matthew Ruttan’s post on suffering. This is only a snippet:

There is a lot of suffering in the world. There is personal anguish and anxiety. There is family and relationship stress. There is oppression and violence and war.
None of this surprises me because we live in a broken world. But it bothers me. It bothers me because it’s not what God intended.

Let the Porter Take Your Baggage

While talking to a friend yesterday, we touched on the subject of the excess baggage many of us carry through life and how God is our heavenly porter. It prompted today’s post:

How many of us have journeyed through life carrying more baggage than we should?

Everything we need for life can be carried in a carry-on case…wisdom, love, caring, common sense, trust, forgiveness, compassion, helpfulness, and more.

But we are loaded down with bad memories, guilt, revenge, unforgiveness, self-centredness, and other things that weigh a ton and cause life to be a heavy burden rather than the learning experience it is meant to be.

Weights can be good for fitness and toning when used in moderation but when dragged through life in the form of overweight baggage, they can wear us down rather than build us up.

When life becomes overloaded with the weights that drag you down, do yourself a favor…let The Porter take your baggage.

I Love Spending Time With You

I know a lady whose husband often spoke those words to her, “I love spending time with you.”

It made me think of how God longs to hear those words from us.

Can we bring ourselves to not only say those words to Him and mean them, but also spend some time with Him every day? Happy Sunday.

Isaiah 30:18 New Living Translation (NLT)

Blessings for the Lord’s People

18 So the Lord must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God.
Blessed are those who wait for his help.

Be Ready to Change

Blog ideas come to me from many places and this one is from Pastor Matthew Ruttan’s July 17th devotional. The photo and its caption captured my attention. It reminded me of the many times I’ve heard this from people…”That’s just the way I am and I can’t change.”

Well, that’s all fine and dandy but what if a change would be for the better as in the case of the caterpillar?

What if you could learn more, do more, be more, have more peace and become aware of your life’s purpose?

I’m not calling myself a butterfly but I’m sure glad God loved me enough to not leave me as I was. Are you ready to be changed? Accept the love that is offered and watch the cocoon of your life take wings.

God loves you as you are. But God loves you too much to leave you as you are.

Independence Day

Just as we here in Canada celebrated our July 1st Canada Day, so our neighbors to the south in the USA are celebrating this day, July 4th, their Independence Day.

Happy Fourth of July to my American friends, relatives, and fellow bloggers. Be blessed.

A Question of Trust

A question I often get asked is, “How did you get such deep faith?” The answer has to be that I seem to, without knowing it, have trusted God all of my life…and with my life.

Yesterday, I came upon this scripture which seems to sum it up perfectly for me: “Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother’s breast. From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.” Psalm 22: 9-10 NIV

I’m not sure that any better explanation is available. In whom do you put your trust? Happy Sunday.

From a Distance

This picture always reminds me of Bette Midler’s 1990  recording of God is Watching Us:

From a distance the world looks blue and green
And the snow capped mountains white
From a distance the ocean meets the stream
And the eagle takes to flight

God is watching us
God is watching us
God is watching us from a distance
