The Lamb Around His Neck

Life can get us down sometimes; we get sad, depressed, tired, lonely, in pain, and the thought that we cannot tolerate another bad news story or take another step on the road of life sometimes leaves us feeling totally helpless. When it happens to me I think of this picture and see myself as the lamb around His neck. Happy Monday.

The word “pastor” doesn't occur at all in the New Testament ...

Because He Cared

A few days ago a fellow blogger emailed me that he noticed I hadn’t blogged for awhile and hoped that I was not sick, hurt, or lonely; because he cared. It touched my heart.

Over two thousand years ago, a Child, Jesus, came to be with us because we were sick, hurt and lonely. It still touches my heart.

Because He cared we have hope for healing, peace, and love.

Because He cared, we are celebrating His birthday; Christmas.

Because He cared.

Merry Christmas.

The Pain of Loneliness

Last week I received a call from a friend of ages past. We had quite a chat, catching up on each other’s lives and making plans to reconnect over lunch in the nicer weather.

Of all the words spoken by my old friend, what stood out the most was, “I’m lonely.”

This lady had spent a good part of her life raising children and welcoming grandchildren. She enjoys Sunday worship and coffee time afterwards but then goes home to an empty apartment. She reaches out to family and friends via telephone but seldom do we reach out to her.

What do to do about loneliness? Obviously the answer is to be aware of these people and make a point of remembering that they do exist and are in need of friendship and caring.

It was a reminder that there are those whose lives would benefit greatly from a telephone call, a visit, an invitation to lunch…whatever it takes to ease the pain of loneliness.

The lonely are everywhere…in our churches, families, public places, long term care facilities, hospitals…everywhere. If you are suffering from loneliness, do what my friend did, make that call and say, “I am lonely”.

Among Two or Three

Sunday is one of my favorite days of the week because not only do I get to worship, pray, and sing, I get to be among the two or three and so many more, who are gathered together in His name for the same purpose. There is no room for loneliness on this day. Happy Sunday.
