Be at Peace


Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 NIV

Faith Can Make it So


For many of us, life is not easy. We have times of grief, illness, pain, upsets, indecision…all the things that come with being alive. But it is possible, if not easy, to overcome at least some of the things that make our lives difficult. Faith can make it so. Happy Sunday.

But Do We?


“In God We Trust” appears on most if not all American currency. But do we?

Trusting God completely means having faith that he knows what is best for our lives. But do we?

Surrendering to him brings freedom not bondage. But do we?

These are not just mere words but a way of life.

We all have choices.  It is good to trust and surrender completely.

We all have freedom to make the right choices. But do we?

Born Again?


“Are you a born again Christian?” This was a question posed to me a few months ago and I wasn’t sure how to respond. And so I didn’t. I changed the subject to allow myself time to digest the question and be certain of  my answer.

John 3:1-20 gives us a conversation between Nicodemus and Jesus about this very topic and Jesus tells the man, “You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again.'”

Some of my research on born again turned up phrases such as ,”spiritual renewal” “spiritual transformation” and I have definitely had experiences in both of these. I also found that the Greek meaning is “born from above.”

Here is a point of view from a sermon of years ago: “All those who put their trust in Christ, even though they have times of doubt, have been born from above and have been given the gift of the Spirit.”

So…am I a born again Christian? Most definitely.

 

 

Change Can Be Good


We sometimes think that change can be detrimental to our lives when in fact it can be very good for us. I’m thinking mostly of changes we make in ourselves and our thinking. It is interesting how scripture speaks of change. Happy Sunday

Be transformed by the renewing of your minds. Romans 12:2

If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly…Jeremiah 7:5

Unless you change…Matthew 18:3

We will all be changed…1 Corinthians 15:51

To be made new in the attitudes of your minds…Ephesians 4:23

And then there’s the Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. 

 

 

Thinking Good Thoughts


Sometimes our thoughts can make or break our mood. I have had to change my way of thinking many times in my lifetime for the simple reason that some thoughts were not only detrimental to my psyche but also to my health.

Now, whenever unwelcome thoughts invade my mind I make a concerted effort to think about Philippians 4:8: 

….whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

It’s called thinking good thoughts. Happy Sunday.

 

 

All It Takes


There were times in my life when I desperately called upon the Holy Spirit to be my comfort and strength. He never failed me and He will never fail you. All it takes is to ask. Happy Sunday.

 

 

 

 

Healing Words


Having been ill for a couple of weeks, I have received many words of prayer, encouragement, upliftment, inspiration, and just plain love.

Among the many that came my way are these: “I was so surprised and sorry to hear how ill you are. You know we are all praying for you to be completely well. I never realized how much I would miss not seeing or hearing from you.”

Healing words from a caring friend on my road to recovery…God’s love in action. “‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40 Happy Sunday.

Fear No Evil


There was a recent incident in my life which could have caused me fear and the need for protection. I felt neither. Instead, I made a conscious decision to support the person involved and later prayed for confirmation that the right decision had been made. Within minutes a flock of five blue jays appeared in my yard. That seemed strange because I rarely see a blue jay. I googled that bird and read:

This bird may symbolize protection and fearlessness. If blue jays appear in your life you will feel safe and protected.

It’s About Faith


My life is lived by faith…not blind faith, but supernatural faith. It works for me. Faith means much to many people and means nothing to others.

There are many examples of faith throughout the Bible and chapter one of Hebrews is a great example.

This came to me from the book, Hinds’ Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard:

“Faith has nothing to do with intellectual belief. Faith is obedience. Faith and abandonment to God’s will and power are inseparable. Faith is willingness to do God’s will. Unwillingness to abandon one’s own will and to obey God is unbelief.”

Because I believe, my life is lived by faith.
