More on Not to Worry

In 1989 the Canadian economy experienced the beginning of a downturn, and the booming business I had been used to for four years in my pretty little gift shop was suddenly not booming anymore. In fact it got to the point where I was behind on my rent. While trying to get past this hurdle without reverting back to the old worry habit, I turned the radio on to this line of Bobby McFerrin’s 1988 hit, Don’t Worry, Be Happy…The landlord says your rent is latehe may have to litigatebut dont worry, be happy.

It made me laugh, and freed my mind to thinking through my dilemma, which got suitably sorted out in the end.

And then there’s this from Alpha’s Challenging Lifestyle by Nicky Gumbel:

It’s an excerpt from the chapter, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.

There are seven reasons why we should not worry:

First…To worry is to miss the point in life

Second…Worry is illogical…it is a slander on God’s character

Third…Worry is a complete waste of time; it is futile, unproductive and pointless. So many things we worry about never happen.

Fourth…Worry is incompatible with faith

Fifth…Worry is un-Christian

Sixth…Worry is unnecessary

Seventh…Worry is incompatible with common sense. (This is my favorite)

And then there is this from All Things Are Possible Through Prayer by Charles L. Allen

Worry? Why worry? What can worry do?

It never keeps a trouble from overtaking you.

It gives you indigestion and sleepless hours at night

And fills with gloom the days, however fair and bright.

It puts a frown upon the face and sharpness to the tone.

We’re unfit to live with others and unfit to live alone.

Worry? Why worry? What can worry do?

It never keeps a trouble from overtaking you.

Pray? Why pray? What can praying do?

Praying really changes things, arranges life anew.

It’s good for your digestion, gives peaceful sleep at night

And fills the grayest, gloomiest day with rays of glowing light.

It puts a smile upon your face, the love note in your tone,

Makes you fit to live with others and fit to live alone.

Pray? Why pray? What can praying do?

It brings God down from heaven, to live and work with you.

Finally, this from an unknown poet:

In life there are only two things to worry about,

whether you are well, or whether you are sick.

If you are well, you have nothing to worry about,

but if you are sick, there are only two things to worry about;

whether you will get better or whether you will die.

If you get better, you have nothing to worry about,

but if you die, there are only two things to worry about;

whether you will go to heaven or to hell.

If you go to heaven, you have nothing to worry about,

and if you go to hell, you will be so busy shaking hands with your friends,

you won’t have time to worry!

That’s the end of the worry topic. Now for tomorrow’s post. Hmmm, let me think!

The Bible on Prosperity

There have been many books written about money and prosperity including The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton, The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley and William Danko, Your Money and Your Brain by Jason Zweig, just to name a few: all wonderful books, I’m sure.

And then there is The Bible by God.  Here are just a few excerpts from the Bible on prosperity and money.

I am the Lord your God who teaches you to profit…Isaiah 48:17 NASB

Now I know that the Lord will prosper me…Judges 17:13 ESV

Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. Job 22:21 NIV

After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again…Job 42:10 NIV

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you…Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

My God will meet all your needs…Philippians 4:19 NIV

Whatever he does prospers. Psalms 1:3 NIV

You will be made rich in every way…2 Corinthians 9:11 NIV

But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income…1 Corinthians 16:2 NIV

And there are many more but I’ll stop here. I have to admit that Jeremiah 29:11 is my all-time favorite, and is mentioned in “My Precious Life”. As long as God has plans for me I am happy. Who wouldn’t be?

Writing From the Heart

How can I truly make a contribution through my writing? What is my gift and my mission?

This an excerpt from “Writing From the Heart” by Hal Bennett

The most valuable asset we have as writers is ourselves.  Everything that happens to us is potentially raw material for anything we might write.  I am convinced there is such a thing as divine inspiration…it is undoubtedly the most powerful source of our creativity.

We are never more generous, never more blessed, than when we give of ourselves through that little piece of the Creative Spirit that lives in each of us.

Writers need to know how to talk to their readers. The most important and generous thing any of us has to give as a writer is our own voice, how we each experience our lives.       End of excerpt.

I hope you can see how this lovely piece of advice would inspire me to write my story.

The Gift of Faith

Our Faith can be likened to a muscle; if it isn’t exercised, it will atrophy. While exercising my muscles does not necessarily bring me pleasure, exercising my faith brings me not only pleasure, but great joy.

Chapter Twenty-Three  –  The Gift of Faith

In 1977, a banner heralding the message, I’ve found it! You can find it too! had been hanging in my eldest son’s room for several weeks.

Dann had left the poster behind when he went to live with his dad. I often wondered what it meant, but didn’t give it too much thought until one evening, Kelly, who was ten, and had taken over his brother’s room asked, “Mom, what does that sign mean?”

“I don’t know,” I said, “but somehow I’ll find out.”

Just then the phone rang. It was a soft-spoken woman who asked me a question.

“Have you seen a sign around with the message, ‘I’ve found it, you can find it too’?”

The hairs stood up on my arms……..

If you believe you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. (Matthew 21:22)

Tomorrow  –  Dancing on a Prayer  –  A Lesson in Carelessness

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I am Patricia Ann Boyes and have just become a first time published author at the age of seventy-seven. I am so excited! The title of my book is My Precious Life, and is now available for sale in Hardcover, Paperback, Kobo, Kindle and various e-books. The book is available on many online book stores such as Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.uk, Westbow Press, to name a few.

In April of this year I posted an excerpt from each of the forty chapters, and they can still be read by scrolling down to the beginning of this blog. “My Precious Life” is meant to be an inspiration to those who are struggling with life’s lessons, and wondering what they are all about. The feedback the book is receiving is touching on just that. “Wonderful…I couldn’t put it down…inspiring…” These are some of the comments coming back to me, and I’m so thankful for the interest it is generating.

After I posted the first forty excerpts, I continued to blog a post a day, and am still blogging! I love it, and have met some wonderful people in the blogging community. Here again, comments are positive and uplifting.

Here is a link to my church web site. My church is a focal point in my life and is featured in my book which is why I’m including its link.

Thank you for visiting “My Precious Life”. I look forward to hearing your comments on “My Precious Life” the Blog and the Book:
