I Love Spending Time With You

I know a lady whose husband often spoke those words to her, “I love spending time with you.”

It made me think of how God longs to hear those words from us.

Can we bring ourselves to not only say those words to Him and mean them, but also spend some time with Him every day? Happy Sunday.

Isaiah 30:18 New Living Translation (NLT)

Blessings for the Lord’s People

18 So the Lord must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God.
Blessed are those who wait for his help.

Be Ready to Change

Blog ideas come to me from many places and this one is from Pastor Matthew Ruttan’s July 17th devotional. The photo and its caption captured my attention. It reminded me of the many times I’ve heard this from people…”That’s just the way I am and I can’t change.”

Well, that’s all fine and dandy but what if a change would be for the better as in the case of the caterpillar?

What if you could learn more, do more, be more, have more peace and become aware of your life’s purpose?

I’m not calling myself a butterfly but I’m sure glad God loved me enough to not leave me as I was. Are you ready to be changed? Accept the love that is offered and watch the cocoon of your life take wings.

God loves you as you are. But God loves you too much to leave you as you are.

Sunshine In My Heart

Poetry is another pleasant pastime of mine. It’s been quite a while since my poetry muse has paid me a visit but yesterday she came along and told me to write about the sunshine in my heart. And so I did.

SUNSHINE IN MY HEART

Though the day be dull and dreary

There is sunshine in my heart

Though I’m sometimes weak and weary

There is sunshine in my heart

When the world seems so unfair

With sadness everywhere

With families torn apart

There’s no sunshine in my heart.

When someone says, “I love you tons”

I have sunshine in my heart

When healing hugs replace doldrums

I have sunshine in my heart

When people care and show compassion

When coldness is replaced with passion

When these give life a brand new start

Again, there’s sunshine in my heart.

Remembering a Guide Dog

Here is another lovely poem by my sister about one of the guide dogs she trained and sent out into the world to help the blind.

Sam, a Guide Dog

I walked beside you one last time

though you didn’t know that it was I

along a path of autumn gold

beneath a brilliant azure sky.

Another walks beside you now

The one that you were chose to guide

I watched as you strolled along

Older now and still so wise

Memories came and in my mind

I saw you as the pup I raised

Happy, leaping, full of fun

You were the easiest to train

Years have past and here we meet

Quite accidentally and to my surprise

Even though I smile with pride

I feel the tears in my eyes

Time cannot erase love that’s shared

And even though we had to part

And you belong to someone else

Still you live within my heart

Longing for Love

There are many people of all ages and both genders who are sadly lacking love in their lives. Some are seriously seeking it, as in online dating sites, others may think it has passed them by, and still others are just waiting for Mr. or Ms. Right to come along. There are some who have had love and lost it, others who have lost love and found it again, and those whose love is right in their midst and they have forgotten to nurture it.

Well, let me tell you, there is hope for all. Two quotes came my way recently…one secular and one spiritual and here they are:

If grass can grow through cement, love can find you at any time in your life.

God designed us with a desire for intimacy…to connect, to know and be known.

I really like both of them, how about you? Are you longing for love?

Today’s the Day!

Celebrating 200 Years of God’s Love. That is our slogan as we celebrate our two hundredth anniversary at St. Andrew’s Scarborough today.

We have been celebrating in many different ways over the past year in anticipation, and today’s the day!

The motto over our door is Jehova Jira – translated The Lord Will Provide. (Genesis 22:14)

For two hundred years this scripture has proven amazingly true for our congregation and we look forward to its continuation.

Just as our Lord welcomes all of us with open arms, we at St. Andrew’s also welcome all with open arms which is one of the reasons we are a growing congregation.

Going forward, we continue to celebrate Jesus who not only lived and died but who died and lives in our churches and in our lives.

Happy Anniversary, St. Andrew’s!

What is Love?

Recently a fellow blogger posted a beautiful poem asking the question “What is Love?”.

Today I am attending the wedding of two people who have found love once again in their lives; the bride is eighty years young and the groom ninety-one. In 2014 I wrote this poem, “What is Love?” Happy weekend.

WHAT IS LOVE

What is love

if not the closeness

of every experience

…sharing.

What is love

if not the oneness

of two people

…caring.

What is love

if not the expression

of honest emotion

…feelings.

What is love

if not understanding

the wholeness

…of all of these.

It’s Mother’s Day Again

There are some mothers whose Mother’s Day is going to be heart-wrenching, and to those I wish the peace and comfort only God can give. There are also families who no longer have their mother with them, may their memories bring them peace.

To all the mothers in my family and around the world may your Mother’s Day be filled with love and togetherness. Happy Sunday and happy Mother’s Day.

The Visitor

In the past few days we have relived the death of Jesus and his resurrection from the dead.

Now He speaks to all of us for whom He died…that means all of us.

“Here I am. I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in and eat with him and he with me.” Rev. 3:20

Who will acknowledge the knock of the Visitor, hear that gentle voice and respond to the invitation to dine with the One whose love for us knew no bounds.

I was ten years old when that gentle tap came to the door of my heart. I often wonder what my life would be like if I had not invited Him in.

How about you? Is it time for you to open the door to the Visitor?

A Father and His Son

Here is a photo I cannot resist posting. It is my nephew reading the Bible to his three-and-a-half-month-old son. Just as the son of God learned everything from His Father, this little one is off to a good start learning from his daddy. It is among the top most precious photos to come my way recently. On this Good Friday, let’s remember the teachings of our Father and His Son as well as what a picture like this can teach us.
