The Bible on Prosperity

There have been many books written about money and prosperity including The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton, The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley and William Danko, Your Money and Your Brain by Jason Zweig, just to name a few: all wonderful books, I’m sure.

And then there is The Bible by God.  Here are just a few excerpts from the Bible on prosperity and money.

I am the Lord your God who teaches you to profit…Isaiah 48:17 NASB

Now I know that the Lord will prosper me…Judges 17:13 ESV

Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. Job 22:21 NIV

After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again…Job 42:10 NIV

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you…Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

My God will meet all your needs…Philippians 4:19 NIV

Whatever he does prospers. Psalms 1:3 NIV

You will be made rich in every way…2 Corinthians 9:11 NIV

But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income…1 Corinthians 16:2 NIV

And there are many more but I’ll stop here. I have to admit that Jeremiah 29:11 is my all-time favorite, and is mentioned in “My Precious Life”. As long as God has plans for me I am happy. Who wouldn’t be?

The Bible on Birth

To all my precious “unbelievers”, please don’t bale on me now.

As I mentioned in my upcoming book, “My Precious Life”, the Bible is one of my favorite books. I love what I learn from reading it, especially about my life and where I came from. There are some who can’t see the reasoning in this, but I for one, can see it clearly, especially when it is spelled out so beautifully. I have never doubted where I came from and because of that I’m sure of where I am going. Here then, is a smattering of the Bible on birth.

Psalm 22: 9-10 …yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother’s breast. From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

Isaiah 46: 3-4…I have carried you since you were born; I have taken care of you from your birth. Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I made you and will take care of you…

Psalm 71: 5,6…Lord, you have been my confidence since my youth. You brought me forth from my mother’s womb; from birth I have relied on you…(9) do not cast me away when I am old…(17) Since my youth oh God, you have taught me…(18) even when I am old and gray do not forsake me oh God…

Psalm 139: 13 &16…You knit me together in my mother’s womb. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Jeremiah 1: 5…Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…

Job 1: 21 …Naked I came from my mother’s womb…

Job 10: 8…Your hands shaped me and made me…

Job 10: 12…You gave me life and showed me kindness…

1 John 3: 9…No one who is born of God will continue to sin because God’s seed remains in him…

Psalm 27: 10…My father and mother may abandon me, but the Lord will take care of me

Genesis 1: 28…Be fruitful and increase in number…9:7…be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it

Deuteronomy 28; 11…The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity – in the fruit of your womb…

Deuteronomy 28: 4…The fruit of your womb will be blessed…

Who could ask for anything more?

I’m Still Here

Surrendering to a grave illness is not the same thing as surrendering to God. I had the wonderful opportunity to push my trust in Him to the limit in 2005, when I was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Chapter Thirty-Nine  –  I’m Still Here

“I have the results of your chest x-ray,” my doctor said, when I answered the phone that 24th of May, 2005. “There’s something growing in your lungs.”

My heart plummeted like a skydiver without a parachute. It was 5:10 pm and I had just had the x-ray at two o’clock that same afternoon.

“Your doctor will have the results in a week,” the technician had said as I left the lab.

“I’ve set up an appointment with a specialist for Friday, May 27th,” the doctor continued now. “You need a CT scan, and he can order it quicker than I can.”

My body tingled as I replaced the receiver. Things like specialist appointments and CT scans take longer than that in the real world.

In a daze, I walked back to the kitchen, where the supper I was enjoying sat half eaten on the table. With shaking hands, I cleaned my plate into the garbage. The only hunger I felt now was for peace of mind, which could only come from God.

“Oh, God, please relieve me of this dread, and let your peace flood my soul,” I prayed.

….may you live to see your children’s children. (Psalm 128:6)

About Job and Me

I’m sure we can all relate to many things and people in our day-to-day lives. Among the things and people I can relate to is good old Job in the Bible, for various reasons, which this chapter will reveal.

Chapter Thirty-Four  –  About Job and Me

Of all the people written about in the Bible, I can relate to Job the most. Here is a man who talked about coming naked from his mother’s womb. (Job 1:21). Didn’t we all?

He was living a good life, minding his own business, and had a wonderful relationship with his Father God. Satan didn’t like this, and told God that if Job had a few hardships to deal with once in awhile he wouldn’t be so faithful. God said Satan could do whatever he wanted to Job to test his faithfulness, except kill him. Satan was overjoyed, and went about destroying Job’s family, his livestock, and servants, leaving the poor man destitute and anguished. He afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet  to the top of his head. …….(Job 2:7)

All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching….(2 Timothy 3:16)

The Time I asked God for a Sports Car

It has been said that God does not answer frivolous prayers, especially for things like a new sports car.  I had a much different experience.

Chapter Twenty  –  The Time I Asked God for a Sports Car

I knew I needed a new car when I could see pavement through the cracks in the floor of my ten-year old Toyota Corolla. This unpretentious vehicle had served me well all these years, until it began to literally fall apart at the seams. Rusted hunks of metal ravaged the once sturdy body.

Now I had my eye on a beautiful, brand new Datsun 200SX on a nearby car lot. It was sleek, black, and out of my price range. It spoiled me for any other car I looked at. “Lord, I’d sure like to own that car,” I prayed…….

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)

Seventy Times Seven

There are times in life when bitterness and anger towards others can actally make us sick, spoil our zest for living, and slowly steal our happiness, like a thief in the night. It happened to me a long time ago. I found the antidote in forgiveness.

Chapter Seventeen  –  Seventy Times Seven

The anger I carried inside was making me sick. It felt like a grapefruit-size growth taking up precious space in my body, threatening to annihilate me, and it was directed at my husband. We had recently separated, and it was not amicable. Bill’s verbal abusiveness and alcohol dependence had taken its toll on our twenty-one year marriage.

One day, my sister came to visit. She knew about the separation, but did not know the details. I had shared these with no one. Eyeing me over the rim of her coffee cup, Mary bluntly said, “Patsy, you look very unhappy.” Astute observation, I thought…..

“Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven.”  (Matthew 18:21,22)
