C’mon! Are You Kidding Me?

What is going on in this world of ours?

A few days ago a radio commentator talked about a group of about six hundred people that is declaring the earth is flat, not round; no ifs ands or buts! (Are we the only square planet in the universe?)

Someone is still trying to build walls instead of knocking them down.

A leader who ran a campaign on transparency, among other sunshiny things, is now embroiled in an alleged cover-up.

People are demonstrating in the streets of many parts of the world in some protest or other, while taking sticks and bricks to properties of others, and setting cars on fire.

Thieves are smashing retail windows at 3:00 a.m. and helping themselves to cash and valuables belonging to hard working merchants.

A young woman was videoed throwing a chair from a high rise condo balcony onto a busy street below.

My driveway was no sooner cleared of snow when along came a plow and dumped a load of the white stuff at the bottom of it.

C’mon! Are you kidding me?

The good news is a smaller plow came along and cleared it away.

Did you have a happy Valentine’s day, yesterday?

From a Distance

This picture always reminds me of Bette Midler’s 1990  recording of God is Watching Us:

From a distance the world looks blue and green
And the snow capped mountains white
From a distance the ocean meets the stream
And the eagle takes to flight

God is watching us
God is watching us
God is watching us from a distance

Happy Sunday.

Our Anxious World

Make no mistake about it. Our world is us…we the people. So what about us is influencing the marked increase in anxiety among our young, mid-age, and elderly?

Some say it is the food we eat, the meds we take, the air we breathe, the games we play, a synapse malfunction…and a myriad of other reasons. Granted, some of these may be responsible but why not look into ourselves? Could there be a connection to the way we treat others, to the way we tune out the conversations that make us uncomfortable, to the way we handle our differences, to the way we exhibit aggressive behavior with the excuse that ‘that’s just the way I am’? All this and more is seen in families, business, the coach’s bench, schools, churches…you name it.

Anxiety is not only a modern day problem. It existed two thousand years ago and even longer. It existed in the Garden of Eden. But that’s not to say that it can’t be overcome. A change of attitude on the part of ourselves and the people we share the world with would be a good first step. Asking ourselves if we could be a contributing factor to our own or someone else’s anxiety and then making a move to do something about it would be a good second step.

I feel that like cancer and other debilitating diseases we deal with on a daily basis, we must continue to look for ways to eradicate this mind-numbing, body-stiffening, nausea-producing ailment before it eradicates us as a humanity.

I, for one, am praying for healing of the afflicted and know that with our own awareness and God’s help, they will be restored. There is a way…let’s find it.

Pay It Forward

Have you ever wondered what we can do to make the world a better place? With all the shenanigans going on all over the planet, we feel so helpless and inadequate in whatever we try to do to make a small difference.

It’s been said over and over again that the way to eradicate violence and hatred of any kind is to start in our own country, city, state, province, neighborhood, community, family, inner circle, church…wherever…and do whatever it takes to sow peace in place of dissension.

It’s not always an easy thing to do but the smallest step in the right direction may be what it takes to change the direction our world seems to be headed in.

As a concerned citizen of Planet Earth, I urge one and all to take every blessing we have received in a lifetime…every kindness, forgiveness, helping hand, gift of love…every good thing, (nothing bad), and offer it up as our contribution to a better world…in other words, pay it forward.

Peace.

God’s Prayer to Us

Have you ever thought of a prayer roll reversal? What if God sent a prayer to us? Yesterday, I wondered what God would say to us in a prayer. Here’s what I came up with:

My Earthly People

I have been watching your troubled world for quite some time now and pray that you would take these few suggestions as to how you might turn things around.

Your environment is in big trouble. It is going to take more than demonstrations to set it right. It is going to take all world leaders, not just a few, to acknowledge the problem and make intelligent decisions. It is also going to take the world population as a whole to do their part. I pray that all of you will take the necessary steps to save your planet.

Your love for one another is sadly lacking. This is obvious from the wars, terrorism, senseless killings, starvation and disease that plague your world. People who love each other do not tolerate this behavior, and, once again, would make intelligent decisions to rectify these situations. I pray that you would do all in your power (and mine) to recognize and eradicate such behavior.

Your daily lives are sadly lacking in love and respect, not only for each other, but for yourselves. You have been taught love from the moment of birth and somewhere along life’s path have either abandoned, forgotten, or ignored this love…not in all cases, but in many. Husbands and wives break their vows, parents pit children against one another, children come to believe that life is all about them, governments forget that they are elected for the betterment of the people, not the detriment.

You are my people and I want only the very best for you. I gave you free will, hoping you would use it wisely. Some of you have willingly and lovingly accepted me; others have deliberately denied my very existence.

It is my prayer that you will open your minds and hearts, and use your intelligence as intended.

You are my children and I love you dearly. Please hear my prayer.

Your Heavenly Father.

What’s in a Do?

If you don’t have plans for the weekend, perhaps you could spend time pondering where you have seen a hairdo like this before. This is an Araripe Manakin, and is considered one of the rarest birds in Brazil and the world. Enjoy your weekend and let me know if he reminds you of anyone.

The Araripe Manakin (Antilophia bokermanni) is a critically endangered bird from…:

God is Where You Are

Wherever we are in the world, there is a church. Whether you attend or don’t, enjoy your Sunday because God, being omnipresent, is not only in a church he is wherever you are.

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:11 (NIV)

The Wise Old Owl

“A wise old owl sat in an oak; the more he saw the less he spoke; the less he spoke the more he heard; why can’t we all be like this wise old bird?” Anonymous.

At this moment and in times to come our world needs a wealth of wisdom.

Owl I ask is that you give a hoot!
